Photo 3 of 28: Monday

I was home sick today and the only time out with the camera was when I went for some lunch down in Hayes Valley. I came across this girl at Smitten wearing the best Doc Martins I've seen in a very long time. I should have asked if I could have taken a picture of her and not just her feet. She was lovely.

From Her Head Down to Her Feet.

Wing came across this warning. The question is, will it actually help?

Nothing Inside.

Photo 2 of 28: Sunday

Wing and I, separately and with no shared intentions, went to museums today.

Since I'm sharing this month-long exercise with Wing, I'll alternate the presentation of the first photo.

Photo 1 of 28: Saturday

I thought I'd set myself a photographic challenge and post a picture each day for the month of February. I don't know if I'll prove to be disciplined enough - or more likely I'll just forget - to get all the way to the end of the month successfully, but we shall see.

The only rule: the photo has to have been taken that day. It can be of any subject, taken with any photographic device, with or without accompanying text.

Here's #1. Taken on Valencia, between 20th and 21st Streets, as Candee and I finished our Borderlands Books visit.

***Update***

Wing decided to do the photo-a-day challenge with me. Since she doesn't have a blog, I'll post her photo with mine.

Chasing the Image

I'm trying out this new visual story-telling platform called Storehouse. I wrote a short bit on getting back into photography and included a spectrum of photos, many of which have been on Bellhops at one time or another. I have all sorts of grand ideas of other stories I could do, but when I look at the stuff other people have published I feel very insecure. We all have to start somewhere, I guess, and get ourselves out there. Somehow, Storehouse seems so much more serious then, say, writing a blog. Hah hah hah.

Here's a link to my first effort. Hope you all enjoy.

Locke it Up

This weekend I went out to the East Bay to hang with J&S. On Saturday, we drove out into the delta to take photographs. It was a beautiful day and though we didn't take a lot of photographs, here are a few worth sharing.

A big drawbridge crossing to Sherman Island (I think).

Our desitnation was Locke, CA, a Chinese settlement buillt up early in the 1900s. It's in some serious disrepair, but there appear to be efforts to improve the town and make it nice place to live and a worthwhile destination. The Library of Congress's website has a nice collection of material about the town gathered in their Historic American Buildings Survey section. The data document is worth reading and the pictures and diagrams of the town are interesting.

Pay Here Honor System Fruit.
Taking a left at the top of the main drag at the T-intersection.
Windowscape. Really want that Viking Hardy Boys book.
Al the Wops - Yelp's got them with 4-stars.
Daenerys Targaryen has got nothing on us!
I put a few black and white pics from the visit on my flickr site, too.

On the drive back, we stopped for ice cream in Walnut Grove and took some sunset pictures.

Gnome for the Holidays

There's nothing like an apartment full of gnomes to make a fine party. This year's Snarfffable holiday bash was great fun, rich with an abundance of gnomes and friends, giant mushrooms, food and drink a plenty, and yes, even some dancing.

The calm before the gnomes.
A trio of happy gnomes.
A tiny, but fierce gnome (a way cute, too).
An uncommonly tall gnome.
A cranky gnome.
Gnome show-off.
Gnome groupies.
Gnome-wannabes hanging out.
Interesting and witty conversations.
Gnome antics.
More gnome groupies.
And the dancing!
